Springtime in Nagoya

couple weeks ago, I had a great opportunity to hold an English class for children and their fathers at WIZ. I was a little nervous at first because I haven’t taught kids in a few months, but it turned out to be pretty fun! We sang songs, danced, and played a few games. The main focus of the lesson was animals, which was a good chance for me to employ my wide array of animal impressions. The kids seemed to have fun and the fathers enjoyed it, so I felt relieved. Afterwards, we had coffee while I continued to play with the kids. It was a good start to my Golden Week, which I mostly spent hanging around Nagoya with my friends.

Meanwhile, I’m still teaching my usual classes on Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Recently I started riding my bicycle to work, as it only takes about 20 minutes from my home in Nishi-ku. It hadn’t been a problem at all until today, when the weather finally decided to change from chilly and rainy to hot and sunny! I wonder how long I can last before turning on my air conditioner? Or maybe I can just spend some extra time in the new supermarket opening near my place? It must be nice and cool inside. Unfortunately it’s not open yet, and there’s no sign anywhere on the building that says when it will be.

For now, I’m just trying to stay cool and enjoy my time in Nagoya. I know that it gets unbearably hot and humid in July and August, but I have a secret plan: three weeks in America with my family! I’ll be flying out to San Francisco for my birthday and to see my friend, then to Pittsburgh to see my family. From there, we’re going to drive to North Carolina and spend a week at the beach. I’m very excited, but hope that I don’t burn as badly as I did last year. Let me know if you want a souvenir!
